Laura has a spectacular aura about
Primary School education UK: entry level?

Can anybody give me succinct and clear answers to the following three questions. I have searched the internet, contacted schools, contacted local authorities and nobody can give a straight answer.

1. At rising five, what skills in reading, writing, numeracy etc is a child expected to have on entering first year primary?

2. What skills is a child expected to learn during first year primary?

3. What actual (pen on paper) differences are there between the state and independent (prep or grant maintained) systems?

I live in Germany, where the system leaves a lot to be desired, and I fear that my child is not receiving a suitable education. I may have to reconsider moving back to the UK simply to ensure his education is good.

Constructive answers only please, I'm actually very concerned.

Thank you
