Secondary History or Childhood Education?

I am currently majoring in childhood education and sociology but I am thinking of switching my majors to history and secondary education. I live in NYC and I always hear how they need more teachers. However, I also hear that they have enough history teachers teachers. Is this true? Does the NYCDOE have enough history teachers? This concern is the only thing stopping me from switching majors.
