| Marksmanship program for summer camp?

Because I'm a local competitive shooter, they got my name and asked if I'd coach some kids in the 12-16 age group.
Honestly, I think it is a good idea that has huge potential for disaster. How do I eliminate the risks? As a kid, I learned to shoot with Benjamin Sheridan .22 caliber (342 I think) well over 25 years ago. I knew full well if I didn't follow instructions to the letter, that would be the last I ever saw of that thing.
Today's kids are different. Maybe that's why they need exposure to guns more than ever.
I just want to do it safely. Thanks for your tips!
