Does anyone else think all this Psychology is crap? ug..am I the only one in the world that thinks this is all crap? I have seen so many of these doctors after my dad died and they diagnosed me with all this crap (bipolar, adhd, borderline personality disorder, paranoid) but I dont take medicine now and havent had any episodes like I did when I was younger isnt it possible I was just messed up from my fathers suicide and not a nutcase?? its hard not to generalize--I used myself as an example but the fact is00almost every teenager taken to a psych doctor gets diagnosed as bipolar and arent teenagers supposed to have mood swings and not know who they are? How many 5 yr old boys get prescribed adderal or ritalin because they act like 5 yr old boys? I am taking Psych right now and so far all Ive learned is the "doctor" is crazier than the patient

It does sound like you are doing well now. Back then you probably had symptoms that could represent a number of disorders. Like you said, It was probably the stress from your father's suicide. I am glad you are feeling fine. Good Luck.

no, you're not the only one. i agree with you. in my opinion, i don't believe in doctors or any kind of medicine to get someone to feel better. i'm very much against the use of those who do that anyway. we have to learn to become our own doctor... in other words, teach ourselves how to make ourselves feel better instead of needing to go to docs and take useless meds that just mess up our system even more. ur not a nutcase either. believe me, i know malpractice of doctors when i hear about it. it even happened to me! i've always thought psychology is indeed crap and sometimes i really wonder how some people like to study that field.

Wow, I am pretty saddened by your misinformation. I suppose you think cancer is crap because we don't have a cure? Or maybe colds don't actually exist because they are so versatile, have so many symptoms, and we don't have a cure for them either. Oh, and I bet no other diseases or disorders have ever been misdiagnosed. Psychology is science, backed up by much hard evidence, rigorous testing, and years of research. Additionally, it is very possible, actually probable, that young individuals with a disorder will remit by the time they are in their 20s or 30s. So what you're overlooking is that just because you are "fine" now doesn't mean that there wasn't something wrong at some point. Something else to keep in mind is that remission doesn't always mean recovery and there may be a time/times in your life when you start to feel the way you did then. Psychology is not crap, but the misinformation people receive from the media and other uneducated people is crap. Why don't you consider the millions of people who have been correctly diagnosed with mental illnesses and whose lives have been saved by medication and therapy. If the doctors are so crazy, and the scientists are so crazy, why do 80% of people who enter therapy have results better than those with the same issues who never enter therapy? Why have numerous studies shown the efficacy of antidepressants and antipsychotics over placebo? Regardless of whether or not you ever had a problem, that doesn't mean that psychology as a field, mental illnesses as afflictions, or clinical psychology/psychiatry as professions are in any way illegitimate. Perhaps if you opened your mind a little bit, you could see how helpful all of this "crap" has been.

Yep. Could have been the mourning and devastating loss of a parent. Actually, this is enough to really disturb any kid. Could have been that combined with a 'personality disorder' which is something ppl can and do get beyond. Many could have beens. What's relavent is that you are doing well. What's also meaningful is that 'all this psychology' is not crap. It does a lot of good by many ppl. Your experience is that of one. Please don't generalize it to everyone.
