Whats the difference between psychology and psychiatry?

I'm supposed to write a paper on the difference.

The fundamental difference is that psychiatry requires a medical degree first, and then a specialization in mental illness. They can write prescriptions for medicine since they are medical doctors.

A psychologist usually has a Ph.D., but not an M.D, therefore, cannot write prescriptions.
