Associates Degree: Will it get me anywhere?

I just had an unexpected child and will be finishing my associates up in the fall semester. I have 6 years of bookkeep (accounting) experience in addition to my associates. My associates will be just in Liberal Arts focusing towards psychology in the workplace. Can this actually get me a job? I like my major, but am worried an associates wont actually raise pay if finding a job. If you have an associates what do you make?

An AS would have been a better route. Really all an AA is good for is 2 less expensive years of college if you decide to pursue a 4 year. You are wrapping it up so any advice is null and void. But on a serious note hon, I have a Masters degree and I cannot find a job that does me justice. Why? Because I lack the experience that nobody wants to give for free and I can't afford to take time out of my day to give for free (volunteering). The market is VERY VERY competitive today. Especially if you live in the US. Expect your transferrable skills to get you a decent job, not your degree.

Well, in your case I'd go ahead and do a career program. Like dental hygienist or nurse etc... I'm assuming your in a tech or community college. I don't really know what the associates does for an employer. It doesn't really prove much except you took a bunch of classes. I say "in your case" because of your child. If your not in a big rush to make money (which I highly doubt being now you have a kid) you could finish out your associates and eventually go on to a university. But if your looking to make good money within 2 years I'd do a career program. Talk to your advisors and start looking on your college website about it.

All of the above comments are correct. The associates you have is very general, not very specific, and I don't think it will do anything for you, unless you transfer and get a B.S, and even then, the job market is pretty bad right now. What looks really good to me are your 6 years of bookkeeping experience, for which I would hire you. The fact that you will soon have an A.S, will just make you a step ahead of the crowd, not necessarily increase your pay.
