Does anybody know a good book that can help me start being a consistent reader?

I am 22 years old, and yet I still don't enjoy reading as I should. When people ask me about my favorite authors or favorite books, I can't give a real answer other than books that I was forced to read for high school. My major is sports management and I am minoring in Psychology. I think I would like a book that actually has real meaning to it and is non-fiction, but I don't know what book would be good for me. Im pretty emotional and sensitive and I'd like to actually feel something "real" while reading. I don't know if that really makes sense, but maybe somebody can help give me some suggestions on some books. Thank you!

I don't know if you heard of this book or have heard of it and gotten sick of hearing it but read Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and The Host by Stephenie Meyer. This book has suspence, action, and a touch of romance to make your day! LOL. (Well, unless your not the person for romance!)

Well, I think you need to figure out what kind of reading you would like to do. For instance I have a friend who only likes to read Non-fiction...she hates fiction. After you figure out the Non-fiction / fiction thing...then write down things that intrest you. Do you like mystery or suspenseful movies or a good western. Then you can try out Genres that appeal to you. Always read the back of the book and maybe the first couple of pages to make sure you like it before purchasing.Barring that...you can always read Mike Lupica's books written for young adults and are of a sports theme.

Well, I know for me the first books that actually got me to really like reading were the Harry Potter books, haha. They actually are very good, they're just thought of as kids books too much.No Pretty Pictures and Night I both found very emotional and "real", they are both holocaust stories. Both non-fiction.The Lovely Bones is a very good book, fiction but very thoughtful in my opinion. And I'm reading Uncle Tom's Cabin right now, its a lot better than I was expecting (forced to read it for my APUSH class), I'm finding it to be really interesting and emotion provoking.

I was a literature major in college and an honors student. I also teach English literature now outside of the US.I just read a book I am going to teach high school students next semester called Cry, The Beloved Country by Alan Paton. That was the best book I have read in more than a decade and really touches your heart and speaks to the deepest questions in life, such as why we are here, why bad things happen and how we deal with bad things when they do happen. The main character is a Christian minister, but the book is not viewed as a Christian book. It is literature, and it is extremely well written. Not only will the subject matter grab and hold your interest, you also may love the style in which it was written.Just one warning: you will have to read past the first 20 or 30 pages at least before it starts to grab your interest. As you go, you will get more and more interested. From about the middle of the book on, you won´t be able to put it down.Have you ever heard someone say something in a certain way and had the reaction, "That´s it! That´s exactly what I have been trying to put into words my whole life, but I just didn´t know how!"? This book is full of that sort of thing.

I don't normally read non fiction books, unless they're about the Trojan War. i would definitely suggest books on that topic, it has war, battles, fights, romance, meddling, and a happy ending.Otherwise, for fiction, you should totally read Agatha Christie's books they are amazing, there deep, fun, usually involves murder, and is written extremely well, by a well respected author.
