Any help on the gift of magi (short story)?

How the following quotation apply to Jim and Della. "Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest."

You'll have to do some looking up on this, but think of it this way-these two people gave gifts that were entirely selfless. They both gave up what mattered most to them to make someone else happy. Of course, the end result was more than a little ironic...

I would say it is because both of them were willing to sacrifice their most prize possession to give the perfect gift to the one that they loved.

well in the end of the story Jim has no watch but a beautiful strap . Della has no hair but a set of combs etc. Readers always smile or laugh when they realize this. now the writer wants to say that what happened tot hem is not idiotic and that these 2 r not idiots. its true that what they got after sacrificing what was dear to them will not be useful to them now but they still are in a better position that those who go and buy something randomly for a gift. because here what they got n what they gave was not something material. it was in fact their love that they shared on the eve of Christmas. Therefore "Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest."

Selfless love is the best. This moral is timeless and so very true.
