| Help Of mice and men?!?!?
As a high school English teacher for 12 years, I wanted to see that my students--understood the the story/plot--understood the deeper meanings of the writing/why it is still relevant today (Of MIce and Men is a good example of being forced to do what must be done, a story of the "strength" of love, a story of misplaced hatred, etc.; all topics relevant today)--understood the conditions in American history at the time and place the story was written and how those conditions influenced the story (Of Mice and Men is a good example of history and place contributing to story development; look it up)--used examples/quotes from the story to support their opinion(s). I may not have agreed with every opinion put together in the thousands of essays I read, but if those opinions were fully supported with facts/examples/quotes, I had no choice but to give them merit--used proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. in their writing; EVERY mistake took one point from students' content grade
