It's not a real recipe for success - I prefer to hide my light under a bushel!
Mind you I suspect that G & S were being ironic depending on who is the character who sings those words.

and true...

you must blow ya own trumpet at times, to say how good you are,

tell em all you are great at what you do..

because if you wish...

to get on,

no use just wishing..........

because it takes more than just a wish..............???
