Athiests: WHY are YOU personally active here in the Religion and

According to a new report (link) Atheists make up only about 1.6% of the US population. However, even by very casual observation in this category it is obvious that a far higher percentage of atheists participate than the law of averages would suggest. Why do YOU, as an atheist feel the need to be so involved in this category?

Also, are you a "cradle atheist", or did you "switch" to atheism?

Atheist vs atheist. It is not a proper noun, it is a general noun or a descriptive adjective so capitalization is not valid.

Welll......as a former Christian who became Atheist after REALLY reading the bible...and finally leaning toward Deism...I can tell you....It is a thankless task but SOMEONE HAS TO DO IT!!!! Someone HAS to have the courage to step into the lion's den and refute the unrelenting flood of garbage spewed by believers...especially Fundamentalist Christian believers, who are intent on turning not just the United States but, via idiots like George Dumbya Bush... the entire world.. into a Christian dominated Theocracy....a world where people like the moron Huckabee can advocate concentration camps for AIDS victims, or a brain-dead Christian President can go down on his knees and ask for his god's approval to unlease 'Shock and Awe' against a helpless civilian population. A world where a Fascist Pope like Benedict XVI can lead the Catholic Church back to the DARK AGES.... a world where a thieving fool like Pat Robertson can ask his followers to pray for the DEATH of a Supreme Court justice.

THAT is why I am personally active on this board....how about YOU??????

I'm not a Yankee doodle dandy lander, in fact over 95% of the worlds population aren't american, imagine that!

I didn't 'switch' to atheism, I just stopped being duped by lies at the age of 7, at that time I didn't know the word atheism and, as kids often do think in such ways, I thought I was the only person who didn't believe in god.
