Religion...I just don't get it!?

Atheists, do you have as much trouble as me understanding religious people? I try to have an open mind and understand what they are thinking (note that I don't mean this as an insult), but I really just can't wrap my head around why an educated person would have faith against the staggering evidence (I'm mainly talking about devout creationist/fundamentalist/etc). Is it just because some people were raised on logic and some were raised on faith and the one side can't understand the other? I'm just wondering if other atheists have as much trouble understanding them as I do. Sorry if I offended any religious people, I tried to make it as uninsulting as possible because I know how sensitive people on here are!
Every answer seems to be "People need to believe in something" but I think even if something horrible happened to me and I desperately wanted to believe, I don't think I could! I can certainly understand why people WANT to believe in religion but I can't fathom how they manage. Thanks for trying though, I appreciate it.
