Where to start with religion?

I grew up Christian.. Now that I'm a teenager I want to look at the source of all religions and then go from there and find out what I think is right... Whether its Christian, Muslim, Islamic, etc. I thought I'd read the Bible (sounds like a good place to start) but then I was informed that the Bible was actually rewritten by Romans and they changed some things.
Now I have no idea where to start!
Please help =]
One of my friends.. who is one of the most educated people I know told me about the Romans rewriting it. He said he got his sources from books, internet, and the history channel.
