Need help with making religion essay more interesting?

Hi. The topic of my essay is Jerusalem as a center for Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. The problem with my essay is that it seems like I'm just there to present facts, and there is nothing that catches the attention of the reader. It's almost as if they're basically reading out of an encyclopedia that I have paraphrased. What can I use to catch the attention of my readers? My professor said this to me today, which must mean I have a lot to improve on for an essay due tomorrow.
