Is the existence of Atheists evidence that religion is unnecessary?

If people can live, work and be happy without religion does that relegate religion to nothing more than a personal interest, if it's not needed as the basis for social order?

I have been an agnostic. I am happier as a Christian. I would never go back.

Umm... actually, religion and God are not the same, not even religion and theism; it is possible to be an atheist, and be a follower of a religion.
Also, it is very possible that atheism IS a religion-why else would you capitalise the word 'Atheists'? There are certainly atheists on here who behave in an identical fashion to 'religious' fundamentalists.

Religion is not necessary and often the source misery and violence. Normal moral ethict are better way to lead a honest and productive life.

I see it that way. but if it makes people happy, then I see no harm in having some faith.
