The 3 things vital to human life are the physical, the mental, and the spiritual. Without each we are less than we can be. we die a little, maybe totally.

because people all over the world try to, or do, legislate their beliefs so that everyone must adhere to them.people all over the world kill and die for their beliefs.if you want to know why it's important, just turn on the news...you'll get your answer in gory detail.

To some people, it's not important. It's a personal thing. My religion is important to me because I love my gods and the earth. Spirituality is important to me, because I think religion without spirituality is a husk of a religion, and because I think a soul is more... developed and content with a spiritual aspect to one's life. But it's not for everyone, and I respect that.

Because, in the olden days in particular, it was a majorly successful tool to control the general population. If you tell someone not to steal because they will endure eternal torment, then they may think twice. If you tell someone that their god wants them to go to war to reclaim holy land/kill infidels/spread the word etc. then they will, for fear of being punished by an omnipotent being.Simply put - religion is fear. Fear of failure. Fear for physical pain.
