Why do some people seem to have such a hostile attitude towards religion these days?

Hello, The Gorn King:Since the destruction of the Twin Towers, many have taken a look at religion. Although most are passive, the images of jetliners crashing into sky-scrapers by religious zealots kindles a memory of Medieval Times when Christians thought they could force conscience and killed others in the name of God.The Greek and Roman church formed alliances to do this, and forced conversion. Thus the Islamic problem today reminds us of Christian potentials for violence. However, what they do not know was it was all predicted in the Bible, and bears studying: "The Rise, Decline, and Deathof Islam in Bible Prophecy at www.revelado.org/islam.htm Things will get much worse!Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

I do tend to get hostile toward people and groups who seek to take my freedom to believe as I want and feel is right away from me. Should I? You bet! I also get hostile on behalf of others over their right to believe as they want as well.

Well, religion and crime are generated from the same short-circuit of the heart and brain. There is a brain led, sometimes imagination based emanation that expresses itself in anything from giant man dominated oppressive religions to sex predators and serial killers. Anyone who has been affected by this very naturally becomes hostile. The cure for this religion/crime disease has been preserved not in most of Christendom but in true Christianity.

Those that abuse religion and those that spend all of their time trying to push their beliefs on others, telling them that they are going to burn in hell if they don't (fill in the blank) have a way of souring others on religion.

Why do some people seem to have such a hostile attitude towards religion these days?

For the truly spiritual, the parameters set by organized religion may seem too restrictive for continued growth and therefore cannot be accepted in their spirit as a true vehicle for the awareness that some consider to be 'God'..."How can it be 'God' if you can see it?"For the truly religious, ritual and form may be seen as keeping the spirit and the flesh on the same accord through consistent, faithful, practice of all the traditional points of that particular religion..."How can it be 'God' if you cannot touch it, feel it, or taste it?"Then there's God...For those that believe, God is the abscence of negativity, the complete evolving of the spirit, the faith beyond all religion, and the freedom of all will...because Man, by nature, may default in these things, we also by nature make 'God' our adversary, and put 'God' to task to disprove our wisdom. Some believe and some do not, some need proof while others have faith--our free will grants us the zeal to stand on our own truth and yet the vanity of our minds provokes the desire to disprove the truth of others--this is the source, in my opinion, of the human conflict...

You need to evaluate your own question. To place God/Spirituality/Religion as equal is naive.God is defined in many ways..Religion is the organized power structure using the human need for connection and love for its own puposes..Spirituality is a part of the human experience, developed to varying degrees..I think you will find that love, God, and sprirituality cause very little negativity.Religion however is your culprit...Why? 1. It is exclusive... if you dont agree with me you will rot in hell, and are not any more important to me than a gnat.2. It is dogmatic... thou shall not ....(you fill in the blanks..3. It is not spritual.. for the above reasons.4.. It is instituted for the sake of power.. therefore it is no better than any fascist government established for the same reasons.5.. It is deceiptful, describing itself as the only way to God.Suppose I can go on.. but, I think I answered the question... Any idea why Religion should cause negativity?
