Why do some people seem to have such a hostile attitude towards religion these days?

Because people have done so many terrible things in the name of religion. I know it doesn't mean that religion itself is flawed, but people have a hard time separating, sometimes.

I am a christian.,..but I will tell you my humble opinionChristianity has had such bad light shed on it. for one..you have the priests who molested children...still members of the church mind you. evangelicals are committing adultery daily it seems like.... and all the other negative stuff...then you have people going door to door telling others that Jesus is the only way..........we need to clean up the spiritual church and not allow these false men and women to be a part of it...we represent christianity and everything we do is a reflection on it....

Because of the way that fundamentalists act, of course. Creationism, 9/11, the anti-abortion rights folks, the attacks on gays, atheists, and science, the support for Bush, the suicide bombers and repressive theocracies...it'd be pretty strange if we were to give those people a "free pass" just because their motivation is religious. Bad behavior is bad behavior, period.
