I'm all for gays getting married. Why are there so many people against it?

Don't bother quoting religion because I don't see that as a true answer.Here in Australia they're trying to get it made legal and I truelly can't see what the problem is.I'd sooner have two mums or two dads that loved each other and me than a mum and a dad that ignore me and are always at each others throats.Who knew that a simple question about what amounts to a simple matter of equality would show just how many small minded and biggoted people there are out there.

I couldnt agree with you more! This argument that it redefines marriage... uhg isnt that a good thing?! In a world where divorce is at its highest shouldnt we by trying to redefine marraige in a way that works! Limiting it only makes it less desireable and seem as more of an imposition.

One negative is that, once people start doing that, what's next? Family members? Sex with animals?That's not to say that these people are bad people. But is there a limit to 'sexual liberation'?

I'm an aussie girl too - doesn't bother me either.I guess so many people are against it because they are so caught up between the fact that two girls/guys being married isn't the norm therefore "wrong" that they miss the whole point of the couple getting married - that they are in love.It is the same with inter-racial couples too - society is so busy putting everyone into a little "category" and singing "which of these thing is not like the other, which of these things is not the same" that they miss the bigger message

Keep Religion out of the State, and keep the State out of Religion. When the State decides its time to redefine religious institutions that existed long before the country, we have a problem.The state should have never recognized any marriage to begin with. Domestic partnerships(or civil unions) should be accepted for both straight and gay couples...The problem is with the term "marriage" - and rightfully so.Keep the church and state separate.*Edit* A gay male cannot marry a male, and can marry a female.A straight male cannot marry a male, and can marry a female.- They both have the same rights.
