In 'The God delusion' Richard Dawkins, self proclaimed positivist argues very convincingly that religion does more harm to children's development than living a non-religious life.
Examples he proposed included cases where a Jewish child was secretly baptised by a practicing catholic maid as a very sick baby. The Catholic church on hearing of this later in the childs life (late childhood) felt a Jewish upbringing was immoral and forcibly removed the child from his parents to live in a monastry.
Sure, our modern society has rules about this now, but what of other cultures and what of the future? It is still legal to use a rod on your child in the US as a form of punishment because the bible recommends it! Perhaps shariat law is not too far away from western societies. What if there is a resurgence in fundamentalism sometime in the 21st century?
While secularism is still part of UK/EU/US/ perhaps adding this human right to protect our children is a timely and wise precaution.
Agree?
Meh not in he UK
Dawkins also suggested religion is a form of intellectual abuse. What do you think of your neighbour being able to report you for enforcing religious customs on your own child?
Now thats a debate worth having. I would be interested in hearing a balanced argument.
Heh BTW I am a child pcychologist

that cant spell psychology:S
