| Kohlberg's moral stages related to religion fundamentalism? Kohlberg studied the moral development of children. Many books were written about him/by him on moral issues. The stages he mentioned are: - Preconventional morality: * Obedience and punishment orientation * Individualism and exchange - Conventional morality * Good interpersonal relationships * Maintaining the social order - Post-conventional morality * Social contract and individual rights * Universal principles. http://faculty.plts.edu/gpence/html/kohlberg.htm http://www.aggelia.com/htdocs/kohlberg.shtml Kohlberg and many others have found that many people don't get to the Final stage. Some even remain in the first one ("I do this because it's the law" , "I believe in this because it's written here") There are many reasons why they don't get to the last one. Mostly environmental: nurture, culture, etc. My question is: do you think religious people are so because of the moral stage they are in? Do you know any books or references on this relationship? |
