Catholics; Don't you just hate arguing religion with protestants?

I remember in last year's semester, I a catholic and some other guy found our self in the unfortunate situation of having to debate the whole confession thing for English class.

Damnit I hated that experience every bit. quoting bible left right and centre, people making rude remarks about preists;
people completely igonoring the references drawn between confession and counselling,

people completely ignoring the psychological benefits of confession as opposed to saying sorry to what you cannot see or hear.

It showed how uncompramising and biased people can really be. I mean really we drew so many analogies, while all they did was quote scripture and tell us how bad a priest is....which is not part of the debate!

The class was supposed to vote for the points; and of course the two of us failed, because most of the class was protestant anyway.

That's my point Tasha; I hate "the bible says this" arguments, they sound stupid and ignorant...like a tape recorder going over and over again.

I will read my bible at my own pace; I can remember most of the stories anyway. But you see this quoting business..that is for schoolwork
Quoting the bible is all fine and dandy, but when we point out the statistics about the benefits of confession....its just
"that's not in the bible"
"if its not in the bible it doesn't exist"

its like the reasoning hits a brick wall and bouces right off.
