Biblical religions beliefs on evolution?

Okay so I'm assuming (this is not based on any thorough study so maybe I'm wrong just from what I've seen) that the average Christian, Catholic etc etc don't believe in evolution.

Now I've never seen it has been specified to homosapians. Do you believe that animals evolved? ie. wolly mamoths to elephants, sabor tooth tigers to tigars etc.

I ask because my wife is Christian, I'm not. I believe in evolotion she doesn't. We got into a debate about it and I asked if she believed that animals evolved. She said she did.

So if that is the average belief. Then what difference does it make if homosapians evolved?

I just would like to understand her point-of-view better and I think differant perpectives could help. Thank you for your patience!

And please don't get mad I'm seriously just trying to understand this better I know this is a touchy subject.
