Can you help me figure out what religion this symbol comes from?

It is two lines that intercect to form an upside down triangle without the bottom line on it. There is a line that goes stright down the center and ends the point of the other two lines. It is meant to hold God/Goddess essessence, and would have been drawn, frequently on a persons head. I have tried looking for symbols for cup or sun... and I can't find anything, I think it comes from Africa, but possibly the middle East or even Egypt. I know this is a long shot but any help would be appreciated!

I think what your talking about is the 15th letter of Odin's alphabet. Check this pic to confirm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algiz
Commonly seen on runes for divinational purposes.
It's name is Algiz and it symbolises protection and defense.

Runes are a Norse alphabet developed around 200 BCE, from characters used for magical purposes. It was believed to have been discovered by Odin as he hung upside down and wounded for nine days on the World Tree Yggdrasil. There are three commonly known runic alphabets: the 'elder' and 'younger' Futhark (futhark being the transliteration of the first few letters of that alphabet), the Anglo-Saxon futhork, and the Danish 'short twig' or script alphabet. The word 'rune' literally means a 'whisper' or 'secret.'

Sounds like an upside down Algiz. Do you have a link to it? Hard to say.

I know of no heiroglyph like that, but it may just be your description.

Like an upside down "peace symbol" without a circle?

Your description is confusing. "It is two lines that intercect to form an upside down triangle without the bottom line on it. " I envision and upside down triangle to be where the point is on the bottom and the horizontal line is on the top, but you say "without the bottom line on it". This makes me think it's described improperly.

Note: Algiz is exactly what I was envisioning as well. Upside down peace symbol without the circle.
