Is lack of spirituality making people mean?

I'm not talking about religion, because I know that it has been responsible for it's share of "mean". Is lack of spirituality making people insensitive? If not, what IS the cause?

Lanosrep. It is that people are lacking in
knowledge of self. If you are not conscience about your well being, or state
of mind. Then you have a tendency to give
way to anything that is opposite of what
you should stand for. There is a major
desensitization of the human race. But if
do good works, to our fellow man, then
we reap what we sow. And then people
will want to have a heart of love and peace.

people have always been mean...but with the advancement of technology and communications, we can be mean instantly...and to people halfway around the world.

I don't think so. I think over abundance of greed and self centered thinking is blocking peoples spiritual potential. It seems like everyone wants what they want and they want it now. In order to be spiritual you must give up that kind and of thinking and grow and develop compassion over time. When your greedy and impatient only thinking of yourself the only thing you'll develop is haste and a bitterness that will block any development of kindness and compassion. Which are core principles of a spiritual being.
