well.... I'm Wiccan and we certainly enjoy being in Circle (our version of a temple), but it isn't necessary - the Divine is all around us. On the other hand, when I was a child, I asked my Russian Orthodox grandmother why we went to church; she said "to pray." I never have understood that answer. I know that Christians of all varieties pray wherever they are, not just in church. I think going to church, temple, synagogue, mosques and other kinds of sacred space is more about communing with others of the same faith than it is about connecting to the divine, although I do often feel that connection even stronger in the presence of my brothers and sisters (those who believe and worship as I do.) Good question |
