Do you think that religion and state are blending together too much?

In recent years ever since the country took a more conservative turn under pres. Bush, politics in the USA has taken on a more religous tone. Now a days we hear of candidates wooing voters, some churches telling their parishoners that if they vote for certain politicoins or for certain issues then they could be denied communion, and active politicising by them. I have nothing against religion and I am religous too but firmly support seperation of religion and state and the individuals right to vote as they wish. the seperation of religion and state protects both entitiies and has served this country well.

Well, a good read into history would tell you that at no time in our history has religion really been separate from state. Sometimes it just flares up higher than other times. I personally would like to see it totally separate.
