I dont understand Renting?

I am 18 and i got to college 3 days a week, i dont have a job yet because i live in the middle of no were...i want to move out and i think the best option would be renting, but do you have to pay for part of the house, how do you pay etc, what type of house?!

It really depends. If it's a house then the person with the master usually pays more than the ones who share a bath. If you are moving into a furnished house then the person who supplied the furniture usually pays less. If you are renting a 4 bed house with 4 people and the rent is $2000/month then the master owner would pay a few hundred or so more than everyone else unless they are sharing a master then everyone could pay the same. It's really up to the people you stay with. Everyone would pay a percentage of the bills so 25% each...

Your best bet is a dorm room from the college many colleges. If there is no dorm room look in in craigslist for rooms you can rent.

If having roomates is a problem look for rentals nearby .You will need to show proof of income or may be able to get your parents to cosign without a job.

Also be careful when renting. If you can afford it go to a corporate apartment that is advertised in a magazine like forrent.com. They are business and will treat renters much better then someone renting a basement. Also do not sign a lease with anyone unless you can trust them. better to go month to month somewhere if you can with roomates. A bad roomate can ruin your credit.

You will also need money for deposits (apartment, power, water, gas etc) . which can easily add into the thousands. some places have specials and to entice you to move in so ask for them when looking.

It depends on where you want to live. There are a lot of options. Some college students share a rented house and split the cost between them, others rent apartments that are meant for a certain amount of occupants, and it doesn't matter if it is fully occupied, you pay the owner a certain amount either way... Others rent a room in a home where there is an extra bedroom, (such as an in-law suite). You should decide what kind of a situation you want to be in, consider all the options, (even dorms!) Decide if you'll just be eating out and at the cafeteria, so you won't need your own kitchen, or what is going to be the best for you. Ask around at your school. See if anyone (you know and trust) has a vacancy they'll be looking to fill.
Good luck!
