What is your crazy house real estate story?

We put a bid on a house... no one is getting back to us... the house is banked owned, the realtor for the house is nuts! We think he listed the house wrong and it's really and auction... he had the wrong picture on the listing... the school and all the information is wrong. He can't remember who he talked to because my agent keeps calling him and he doesn't remember. He said yeah, it’s a listing and then later said I put our bid in but it will take 3 weeks?? Which is the "auction" date he said, and we keep saying NO, it's a listing. He won’t return her calls and then has called her by mistake. My agent called his boss because she couldn't stand it anymore and his boss told him- and the guy called her screaming!

My agent said we just have to laugh- she thinks that because the guy is insane and all the information is wrong that no one even knows this house exist- so we will be the only offer!
She is going to call his boss again today- and tell him we need to know what’s going on because this is insane.

Anyone else have any strange realtor stories? I need a laugh.
Guy is an older man, we don't know if he is losing his marbles or he is just cluess with too many properties.

Banks must frequently pick moron agents. I bought mine from a bank two and all I can say about this listing agent is “Nobody’s home.”

Yeah . . .I've been a Realtor for about 5 years and you'll run across crazy agents who don't know what they're doing. I had a listing once when an agent from another company brought the buyer. She was so incompetent that I actually had to be the middle man and talk to her client and their mortgage broker . . . her own client pushed her out of the picture!

Oh, but with bank owned properties, keep in mind that you're in it for the long hall. Your agent may not have much experience with it (but if so stick with her, she'll learn) but any properties where you have to deal with a bank will take forever! Don't be surprised if you don't have a counter/acceptance for a month or so.

Rule 1 on any offer is put a time limit on it. I suggest 48 hours.

Otherwise you can be hung out with an answer for months.

There are a lot of incompetent REALTORS in business. That is my first observation. Second is that with short sales the process is very complicated and very, very long. You are dealing with bank employees who probably have no authority to make a decision, they get their check every payday no matter what and they have no sense of urgency.

Your contract should have the phrase: "time is of the essence" but banks don't abide by the contracts. I agree with the other post that 48 hrs should be more than enough time to respond. If you are dealing with a normal foreclosure then things should move more quickly but short sales are a different animal.

You wanted to laugh so here is a situation when we helped a couple from NYC buy a house in FL. A lot of things happened with this transaction but the one that stands out is we got to closing and the closing agent asked them for their bank check. They pulled out bank checks made out to the mortgage company and not the title company! Needless to say that really delayed things!
