Good question. Many people think that capital gains taxes only affect the wealthy. How many people do you know that own stock in the company they work for? How many people do you know that own a house? How many of these people are actually considered "rich"? Capital gains affect all Americans that are smart enough to invest.

That would be the FAIR thing to do. Because we all know that income is distributed (not earned) unevenly and we need to provide services (handouts) to the less fortunate (those who live above their means) and to do this the those who have won life's lottery (those who have worked hard and accumulated wealth) will need to pay their fair share (pay the way for the lazy bottom feeders).

I don't see any reason why the Capital Gains tax should be increased - it should be eliminated if we are really concerned about fairness.

For that matter, I don't think that the tax-cuts for the richest americans should expire either, I think they should not only be permaneant, but extended to the lower and middle class as well.

Bottom line, I don't see how keeping everyone's taxes high is supposed to be fair.

The capital gains tax affects everyone, not just the wealthy. The only thing raising the capital gains tax will accomplish is it will further stagnate the economy. After reading some of these answers, I think there are many Ignorant people out there that don't even know what capital gain is.

but as always, the rich should pay more as they own more of the resources that require defense and roads etc...

not to mention that for the richs own safety they better help poor people before they go postal on them from abuse.
