A princess is in love with me, what should I do? I am in diplomatic service and occupy the post of secondsecretary of legation at a small German Court where they still have royalty - of course I can't mention the names. (I obtain the post mostly due to my naturally good voice, which was cultivated by Monsieur Bonnefoy's lessons.) There is the prince, the father, in that court, and his daughter, the princess: tall and fair, and fragile and elegant; with a delicate aquiline nose and melting blue eyes. She enchanted me. One day I received a note from the princesses' lady-in-waiting - a bosom friend of her highness, short, fat, ill-tempered and ugly. She asked me to meet her, I agreed; during our meeting she informed me that the princess was in love with me! I am an obscure young man with no money to speak of; she is a princess, beautiful, young, smart... What should I do?

A princess is in love with me, what should I do? No offense, but is this real? Or are you just making it up for fun or for a novel? No offense, but it does kind of sound like a fariry tale. Of course it could be true. And if it is true, you should meet her. If someone loves you, money shouldn't really matter.

A princess is in love with me, what should I do? Oh, poor man, be careful! Princesses tend to marry royalty - unless you step lightly and keep your eyes open to the intrigues of court, you'll find her engaged to a Prince or at the least a Grand Duke before you know it. All that plotting and scheming is a lot to live with - it would be simpler to leave your hopes of royalty behind, and look for a wife among the other young ladies of your acquaintence. That charming French opera singer, perhaps?
