You have to be kidding.Do you really believe, even for a moment, that Congress would allow that money to escape their clutches. Anytime Congress raises taxes or imposes new taxes, regardless of what they call it, the majority party allocates that money to enhancing its own power and its own pocket books.There is no way that Congress would use new found money to pay down debt. That doesn;t help them get reelected.

You do realize that in a capitalistic society, the government does not arbitrarily take away profits to pay off debts IT accumulated. Unless you are advocating the nationalization of the oil industry, that would be illegal. And based on government history, if we were to nationalize the oil industry, they would just find some new way to spend their profits.
