| I understand what you are going through- our face is what the world sees and judges us on first.
Go back to your next scheduled visit with the dermatologist and let them know you do not feel that it helped much- they may give you Metro Gel which is stronger than Metro Cream. With medications, doctors usually like to start out with the lowest dose.
Also, Im sure they told you that alcohol, sunlight, and certain foods (especially containing caffeine) may cause rosacea to flare up, so use an oil-free sunscreen, and all oil-free high-quality facial products.
There is no surgery for it...Im not sure what you are referring to unless you mean Laser Light Therapy. This can help, but usually it is for severe rosacea- where the skin is very bright red and getting bumpy. It is expensive and not usually covered by insurance, but sometimes there are free trials given by the maker of the laser manufacturers. The lasers reduce the appearance of capillaries under the skin.
Rosacea is actually caused by a fungus, believe it or not, similar to a yeast infection. The creams and gels are used to kill the fungus. If you are suceptible to the fungus, it can keep coming back if you dont continue the medications. Over time, once it is under control, you can start to use the products less often.
Do continue the products your doc gave you, at the recommended uses per day, because untreated rosacea can get pretty bad and it becomes more difficult to reverse the damage, and it can permanently change the texture and appearance of your skin.
Now you said that it came on after a bad flare-up of breaking out...there is a possibility that you do not have rosacea- Your skin went through alot of stress and injury with the 4-month breakout, and you probably used some harsh products that irritated the surrounding healthy skin. You might have chemically "burned" the top layers of skin around the area, and just need to treat it gently. Metro cream is ok to use, but dont use acne medication or anything like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid on the area unless you are having an actual pimple. Never put harsh products like this on the newly-formed healing skin. If this is the case, you have an injury to the area and basically need to just let it heal. If it bothers you, try putting a little oil-free natural-colored face powder on the area, men can get away with this too. |
