| which kind of society wants to freedom?
tinker thinker indicated good points about freedom http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylc=X3oDMTE1MmI4N2IyBF9TAzIxMTU1MDAxMTgEc2VjA2Fu c19ub3QEc2xrA3N1YmplY3Q-;_ylv=3?qid=20080312045243AATvCco she says "The concept of freedom,, is just that..people should not be forced one way or another..but have the freedom to decide for themselves" however, Turkey has not enlightenment development, religious reform as sense of Europe. Modernization has been carried top of the state that is elitist. but, in Europe, it came from bottom of society. Also, Turkey had no burgeosie in the Ottoman era. Sultan and his close family had soil and ordinary people had not private property. so, Turkey had no industry revolution as European sense so, Turkish elitists had to force revolution. because, Europe had already established modern nation states. Turkey was the so late come for all those developments caused conflict among society. because, oposition has used religious political discourse in order to come to power. if your society is uneducated, you can easly manage to people by religion for example, if you are mother/ father, can you allow your little child act free by himself or herself. so, you must protect your child from any danger and you must do good things for your child who refuses it |

The kind of society that trusts its people to be responsible enough to make good decisions and judgments, which is necessary for freedom. Responsible people make up a civilized society. I would say that the U.S. is not really all that civilized because of rude and overly aggressive behavior. There is a lot of violence in the U.S. It is increasing because of economic problems as would be expected. We have lost a lot of our freedoms because of some lousy people that think they are above the laws. But people in the U.S. still believe they are free. I guess it depends on your definition of freedom. edit: Individual freedom doesn't really work because we have to live together. What we do does affect other people. It's just a fact of life. Society can enforce rules/laws on people to keep the peace or people can do that themselves. But unfortunately there are people that just don't possess the discipline necessary to do it for themselves. edit again: I don't know a lot about Turkey. It doesn't sound like government is there for the people and that might be the overall problem. The government should be blind to individual interests and focus on what is best for the people as a whole. Maybe Turkey's government believes that is what they are doing. This belief of mine is too idealistic, apparently. It might be wise to move if no acceptable solution is seen. My relatives from many years ago left Lebanon because they saw that the situation there was not going to improve. Rather than fight, they decided to just leave. Someone said that the muslims overwhelmed the non-muslims with population. |
