Sociology, Energy, Power and industrialization?

I've been reading about liberation movements and the different ways that they owe existence to power and industrializaiton. One question comes to mind and I'd like some other points of view.

In your opinion, What ways do the various liberation movements owe their existence to the development of artificial power and industrialization?

I'm not wanting long explinations, just your general thoughts for good conversation.
