Video editing software?

Can some one point me to a linear video editing software that's more advanced than Movie Maker or Nero 6? I don't care if it's free or expensive but I would like someone to recommend a more advanced program that they've had experience with and they like.

CNET's download site may be able to help you. You can find some of the best software there, and you can usually try it out before you buy it. Here's the link to their editing software:

Usually the deal with video editing software (referring to professional classed softwares) is that there is no "best" and all opinions are subjective (although sometimes features will be slightly different). It is only a matter of getting used to the interface.

Personally, I have used Premiere Pro for several years (version 7 and recently upgraded to CS3) and it definitely gets the job done. If you have a Mac, you can also try Final Cut Pro (my friends love it) which is essentially the same thing except some people say that it's better than Premiere (again subjective).
