Can anyone recommend free or inexpensive software for testing the reliability of my

internet connection? My wife and I are both working from home. She works over a VPN connection to her company's network and frequently experiences delays and dropped connections. I'm looking for a piece of software that can monitor the connection and log any problems. The IT people at her company keep insisting it's a problem with our wireless router, and I'm convinced it's her company's crappy VPN server.
