I develop safety-critical software. Is it right I should receive what...

...sound like death threats when I try to.. educate myself by asking questions ?

Yogeshwargarg gave an answerer this terrific advice:
"Knowledge is power. You have to gather all
relevant information, to the maximum possible
extent, before you visit the suppliers. Your
advices, observations and objections will be well
received if you are fully informed regarding the
issue in hand. If someone is hindering in your acquiring full
and complete knowledge, he desires that you make
a joke of yourself when you visit them."

As one of the policemen pointed out at the Diana inquest
"Plainly before you go to premises, you need to be as aware as you can be of the circumstances if you are going to proffer
advice".

As a Yahoo answerer said "Would alarm bells ring if you seem to be being denied this capability ?"
