Is there a way to use free webcam face recognition software with a normal video

camera? I have found videos like http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2006/04/logitech_quickcam_orbit_mp_1.html and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o32oHGTOzTE and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLdt5h5nALI and even a program that does it (that i can no longer find) but they seem to either be for a specific logitech webcam or just webcams generally. This obviously means lower resolution than using a standard 16:9 dv camera - does anyone know where firstly, you can get this sort of software without having to buy a particular webcam (I can't see any reason why it requires a particular webcam..i think it's all software) and b) a way to use a normal video camera.
