which software do they use to design big buildings, stadiums, and bridges?

when i was at college we used

windows visio

that did all the buildin plans and that

Something versatile. Can catia be used? If so what are its limitations? If not, suggest some other. Im just a beginner at this, but im pretty good at catia.
