| Pre-K special education? I have a 3 year old son who was just dg with a very mild form of autism and was accepted in special ed pre-K . I wonder what is your experience with this and if your child has improved over the years . I am concerned that my son will not have good role models there since the pre-K kids are mostly retarded with Down Syndrome and fragile X , there are only a few higher functioning with ADHD and speech disorders .Is it better to keep him home and homeschool him or let him go everyday for 6 hours at school? And is it not too much for a 3 yr old that still needs his naps and to be with his mom &siblings ? He would be leaving home at 8 and coming back at 4 .I feel I am qualified enough to teach my child and he learns a lot from his siblings...Any advice appreciated.
It seems to me the teachers in this pre-k are not autism trained. I know much more than them about autism and therapies like ABA , floortime, etc An autistic child needs to be taught differently . |
