| Asking your opinion: The farmer's girl in the big city?
I heard tht my mom is having a fallout with her sis (my aunt). trouble is, aunt, a farmer's wife, wants to send her daughter 13, to live with us in the city because of better education opportunities. In the rurals, they are very few good teachers and the girls quite an achiever (in rural school standards). Mom's a junior high teacher, so aunt think that her girl can go to the same school. Truth is, this city isn't suitable, the teenagers are all delinquents and juveniles, we had street fights, drugs, rape and robbery in every corner (really, i went to that school too). The girl's maybe too naive to be here, and we're afraid that she might end up with some biker/drug gang here. (plus we have a delinquent teenage brother). But the aunt thinks that as long as her girl sticks with mom, she's gonna be fine. So mom refused, aunt thinks she's a stuck up yuppie from the big city. Did mom made the right decision?

i think your mom was right. its like when someone who has gone to a private religous school for their whole life and then gets thrown out into college and its like 'woah! ppl really do this stuff!' thats a bad situation for anyone and if its thrown upon the wrong person then it can turn out badly.your mom witnesses what goes on amoung kids your cousin's age everyday, and she knows what she is talking about much more than your aunt does. she is smart to say no.

your mom is defintly right. but why not take a different approach and send her to a private school in the city and you also hang out with her and make her meet your freinds.

nope, and also supossing she get here isnt also right that she "sticks with her mom 100% OF ALL THE TIME" good principles give good results if she has an educaion that she must be careful and watchout for bad guys and stay away from drugs it is OK she wont do it, the key is that she knows to stay away from danger si she can make good friends not to be with her mom 100 because that is not the solution of course her mom must take care of her and watch 4 her but I think is TOOOOO EXTREME to have her 100% of the time to keep her safe as she must learn to make ciy friends and be independant yet careful and as I say the mom must watch 4 her but also impart her principles and morals so that she knows what to do and how to behave who people trust and who do not so she can be independent, have friends live like a normal city girl and also becarefl of the city dangers.

There is just as much drug use in the countryside, trust me. Meth labs are everywhere. Rapes are there, too, but under reported. Oddly, many biker groups have become more benevolent and protective as others cling to the violent, drug dealing ways.In a new environment, she certainly would need shielding and a street education (I grew up in a rowdy, shipbuilding riverfront area of New Orleans filled with crimes.)I have no answer for you on this, since you live where it is happening and I do not. But it is my experience across America that drugs and violence are everywhere.
