Could our democracy be improved? First of all I would like to say I am not a communist, nor am I suggesting communism over democracy.....but I am just spitballing hereIs allowing ANYONE the right to vote who is old enough really the best thing for our country? We have one of the worst education systems among industrialized nations, and studies show more people in our country believe in angels than evolutionHere is an idea and I want to see what the cons are:What would be the problem with say having some sort of test(doesnt have to be too hard) that people have to pass before they can be registered voters?A way to weed out the imcompetent citizens, the ones who are voting for their candidate for things other than their political stancesOk so what are the cons of this? Why would this be a bad thing?thanks

Could our democracy be improved? Thank you for visiting political forum, my friend! How R&S tonight? no major action going on?It might interfere with freedom of expression law here in the state....Also freedom of speech and when you are 18 yrs old. You are allowed to vote and it's your right!

Could our democracy be improved? Despite the logic in your question, the premise flies in the face of freedom and all men are created equal and so fourth.I have always thought that a simple test should be administered before a couple can bear offspring - but that fails the freedom test also.

Could our democracy be improved? I do see some benefits perhaps an IQ test...place 80 or above and you can vote...the problem is that voting then becomes a privilage not a right...however in such a free society, we should'nt SO FREE that we can choose to destroy our freedom. By that I mean the incompitent one's who would put whip cream on horse shit if the Gov't told them it was candy. The problem with an IQ test is: who's setting the standards? And could the test be politically bias?

Could our democracy be improved? Wow. Great, and difficult question. Personally, I couldn't agree more. I find it completely dumb that ANYONE who is age appropriate can vote. I mean, some people on here, and I'm not only talking about particularly young people, can't even type right, let alone make an accurate decision to such an important part of the government. - However, the government would not get away with trying to convince our nation that one has to pass a test, even one that is not too hard, in order to be allowed to vote because then voting is reduced to a privilege, instead of a right. However, the problem I have is that there is an age limit on voting. I find that there are some, but not too many, young people that are more mature and even smarter than some adults. I feel that if the government can put an age limit on voting, does that not make it a privilege? I think that they should replace the age limit with a test. I don't see how it makes it any more, or any less, of a privilege than having an age limit. I feel that it would still be on the same grounds, but perhaps a smarter strategy than letting everyone over 17 vote.Hope that helped.

Could our democracy be improved? The flaw in this system is that even the American government is not under a true democracy. The greek words that form "democracy" mean "people" and "rule". Rule by the People. Which as you know, isn't the case.No matter who the individual is that is voting, they will vote for the candidate that THEY see to be the most qualified; based on their own morals and values. Mostly religious. But for an individual who isn't religious, yes I can very well see the logic in voting for the candidate that best fits the political ideals of the individual. Another reason why this system wouldn't work in our government [or a democracy] is; How are we to determine the intelligence of an individual? I very well understand the condition of our schools/education system. [As the former student of an under-funded public school]. I'm well aware of what is being taught in our schools and the lack of determination and compassion from the teachers and students. In this government, we all have equal rights. And are all entitled to have our vote, regardless of our upbringing/background/schooling/religion or anything else that might effect our vote. That is just our rights as human being to make our own choice. And if we even aren't given that within our own country. then what do we have?Yeesh. It's bad enough it's turning into a police state. I'm more worried about the actions of someone I vote for, rather than what they believe. We have no idea until they are president. Then we see the damage that can be done.
