| online education? is this right?
i am 16. supposed to be a sophmore this up coming year. but my parents had put me onto an online program because i was doing poorly this past year. so when i got onto that, i had nothing but straight a's and b's. i was doing good. studying every day. flew through my tests. got all above average. and they are now saying that they are withdrawing me from the school because i didnt take one state test (writing) in 7th grade. are they allowed to do this? i've done ALL of that work, all year. got straight a's. shouldnt they have checked that before getting me on this? am i allowed to get on another online program? :/i live in ohio. they didnt even contact my other school to inform them. so i had my other public school calling saying that i was absent and stuff..

Well, if you were considered "homeschool" then, no they can't do that. But there are requirements for homeschoolers. IN my state, I know the parents have to send in an attendance form each month. If that is not met, the state can step in and take action.OK, sorry I didn't read it quite right... time for me to go to bed!! I would have mom or dad call them and talk to them about it. If they don't budge, get another one. There are lots. Good Luck and Good night!! |

That is defiently not right! What state are you living in? We'll your gonna have to get your parents and a lawyer to sort this mess out. And the reason why I say a lawyer is cause the school system never does crap unless they are threatened. Give em a little law suit of mild contempt or something. But it'll get em to do something

You haven't said what online school you were going to, but I'll tell you that the government regulations for distance education schools are very strict. They are not allowed to offer a minor an alternative education for the standard type of classroom education that everyone else follows. In other words, they cannot offer an incentive to you to quit regular school and take their courses instead. If the school is caught doing this, they can lose their own license and the law is on THEIR side. You can threaten all you want and I appreciate that all the people here agree with you that its not fair, but there is nothing you can do. If you have not attained certain minimum education levels on your own before taking their courses, they have no choice but to cancel your courses.
