Whats the chance of keeping a relationship going when one half is gone for a prolonged period? Say boyfriend and girlfriend have been going out for a couple years and boyfriend is leaving to study abroad for a semester (6 months)?

six month is okay but separation is never good.

It depends on the two people. If they are committed to each other and want to make it work they can. It will be hard but when you get back Im sure it will be better than ever. Best of luck!!

Well u have to have a way of keeping the spark, if u been dating for a few years think about it this way, if u build a house on a good structure and build it out of brick u can leave the house and it wont weather. BUT if u build it out of stick and mud and try to hold something that isnt there if u leave it unattained it will break down. Anyways, if u both make attempts of keeping in touch 6 months is nothing, u have couples that go away due to the army or whatever for years and not all of them cheat on another, it depends on both of ur morals, how u were raised and how much u value each other and ur relationship. With that being said, invest in a lab top and a webcam and talk to each other on webcam as often as possible...and do stuff to keep ur spark up.
