chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, chancroid, trichomoniasis--these can all be cured by taking antibiotics pubic lice, known as crabs, they can be treated with prescription creams and soaps genital herpes (HSV type 2), HPV (some strains cause genital warts, others lead to cervical cancer), hepatitis B and C, HIV--once a person gets one of these, the virus is always in the body, though they may not always cause symptoms. i didn't count oral herpes(HSV type 1) since most people contract it as young children, but it can be transmitted to the genitals through oral sex. herpes and HPV are transmitted through skin to skin contact with an infected area, but ussually through sexual contact. HIV and the hepatitis viruses are contracted through infectious blood and other bodily fluids inluding semen, breast milk, and vaginal fluids. the others are contracted only through sexual contact. (though gonnorhea in the mouth is possable and can sometimes be transmitted from mouth to mouth, but ussually only in cases of poor immune function) there are many other infections and diseases that can be transmitted sexually, but are not considered sexually transmitted infections (staph infections, yeast infections, even ebola) |
