Do annual gyno exams test for STDs? I had my first gyno exam last August (I was 20 at the time). I wish I could, but I can't remember if they tested for STDs. Does anyone know if that is standard for a first-time gyno exam? The reason I am asking is that I just went to a different doctor and tested positive for chlamydia, but I am with the same person I was with when I had the first exam, and neither of us has cheated (I know this for a fact-we are very close and literally always together except during class at college). As far as I know, I did not have it back during my first exam; I assumed she tested for STDs and would have informed me of any abnormalities. I also have never had unprotected sex with anyone but my current boyfriend, and he and I have been together a year and a half. The doctor said it could be a false positive and I got retested; should be getting results in the next couple days. I have had absolutely NO SYMPTOMS whatsoever and neither has my boyfriend. This just seems outrageous. Any help?

STD testing is not a standard. You have to ask in order to be tested. And chlamydia usually shows no signs or symptoms, which is why people will go years before they realize that something is wrong. That is why no matter how many partners you have had, even if only one, you get tested.

It is possible that the Dr. did not test for STD's during the first exam, and it is equally possible that this exam was a false positive. I know several of my friends who tested positive for chlamydia only to take a second test and have it come back negative, so I wouldn't worry too much about it, especially if you know your boyfriend doesn't cheat. If it does somehow come back positive, I would assume that the first Dr. didn't test you. Chlamydia usually has no symptoms at all and a lot of times isn't caught until someone gets pregnant (they check for everything when you get pregnant). Like I said, I wouldn't worry too much about it; even if you do have it, the treatment is quick and easy. I'd say if I had to choose an STD to have, chlamydia would definitely be my first choice. (not that anyone would want to do that haha). GOOD LUCK!! =D
