Why are humans so prone to STDs? In many species, sexual promiscuity seems to be a virtue. The mixing of genes among multiple partners helps ensure genetic diversity. Yet in humans, sexual promiscuity seems to create the opportunity for many bacterial and viral STDs, some of which are fatal and many of which cause infertility - especially in women. Prior to the modern sexual revolution the number of known STDs was fewer than 10. In the 40 years since the revolution, that number increased by more than 300%. We've become healthier yet less fertile. The observation that, in humans, increased promiscuity increases STDs seems at odds with the idea that genetic diversity should be encouraged in a species for it to remain genetically strong. ie the act of creating genetic diversity through promiscuity seems to create a negative effect on the propagation of the species. What is it, biologically speaking, that predisposes humans to STDs while other species that practice promiscuity don't seem to suffer from these afflictions

Because the human population is really a bacterial infection and god not I say Christan, is controlling it the best way he knows how...out of nothing, look at the plague, China's multiple flues. a populated place will get cut down by natural means. Also have you ever heard of Human mating season...No you haven't, we f%Uck all the time, I know another species that does this...a virus

You have a couple of bad assumptions. Other species do get STDs but they don't live long enough or have sex often enough for them to spread far. Most wild population have limited mating periods and the population groups are separated. When you are looking at humans you have a high population tightly packed and very connected. When a disease does appear it can spread fast and far. Even if the disease is lethgal in a fairly short period it can still be spread fast just because of how many people we are in contact with. In a wild population such a disease would only kill off the carrier or a small group before running out of victims
