What langauge barriers do you experience as a student studying abroad?

... and what would make it easier to overcome these barriers could you place of study (college, University) do anything to help regarding language problems you experience?

the best way to learn a language is to go to a country where that language you want to learn is spoken. It will be hard to communicate at first but if you put yourself in a situation where you have to learn the language to survive, eventually, you will learn it not only because you want to but you have to in order to live. You will encounter not understanding people, saying the wrong words, not conjugating verbs correctly..thinking you are explaining yourself, but really you find out you are not making any sense, some people might take advantage of you because you don't totally know the language...but all in all, the experience and memories make all the hard challenging parts of learning a language worth it all.
