| Where can I find a cell phone that I can make cheap calls from Ireland to the US? Please see details.....? Ok this I can help with (a little), I'm an American living and studying in Dublin, and over the last year and a half I have a lot of experience with this. the answer is a bit complicated, first do you need the phone before you move over here? if so that could be a problem, the only American cell phone companys phones that work over here are AT&T and T Mobile, mobile phones over here are all sim phones. it is outrageously expensive to use an american cell phone in Europe (don't try it).part 1if you can wait to get a phone until your over here you'll be better off, then get pre pay or pay as you go phone. there are 4 mobile phone companys O2, Vodafone, 3, and Meteor.for you the best option is Meteor, the pay as you go "Meteor Leisure Time Plus" plus plan, when you call after 6pm it's only 13c a minutes which is by far the best over other careers (the 13c is to Irish numbers).part 2 of the solution, have you heard of Skype? well if you haven't it's a VOIP (telephone over the internet) if you have it and the person your calling has it then the call from computer to computer is free. and now (thank god) Skype has a great new function Skype ToGo, you buy a plan (Ireland to USA, costs me about 4 dollars a month) and it gives me a local Irish number to call, I call it from my Irish mobile and I then dial the american number I want to call the call is free other then the charges to my phone to call a local number. I've been using this service for about a month now and it's fantastic, cheaper then a calling card and much, much, much cheaper then calling directly.I hope this helps, I'll give you a few of the web sites that go along with what I've said. Good luck and I hope you have a great time over here.http://www.meteor.ie/http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/subscriptions/uscanada/ |
